Hailey is a 5 month old black lab puppy and is just the cutest little thing you will ever meet! She's a typical happy go-lucky puppy who needs to learn some basic manners and how to be a great family pet.
Hailey is sponsored by Animal Rescue Inc (ARI) Rescue and her adoption fee is determined by his rescue.

I believe Hailey had her first experience with ice cubes. Actually, it was ice that froze overnight in the water bowl outside in the dog yard. First, Hailey tried to get a drink without any success. She tried to bite the ice, claw at it, bark at it, and after seeing her struggle a little I took the ice out and slammed it on the ground and Hailey didn’t know what to do. She tried to run to every piece of ice! When she picked one to her liking she would swat at the ice with her paws like a hockey puck, pounce on it with both her paws, and then eat the ice. Like I always knew, she’s a natural hunter LOL.

Hailey had her first encounter with a frisbee this week and it’s safe to say she will never be in any competition involving a frisbee LOL. She would chase the frisbee but can’t catch! When the frisbee would lay on the ground, Hailey wasn’t able to pick it up so she would play bow, then growl, scratch the top of the frisbee frantically, bark at it, then dig up clumps of grass around the frisbee so she could pick it up with her teeth! Also…I could throw the frisbee to repeat the process all over again, again, and again! I never stopped laughing and Hailey still isn’t any better at picking up the frisbee. Safe to say, I have a new fondness of frisbees!
I also want to mention – Hailey LOVES people and other dogs!

Hailey’s love for other dogs continues to be pure entertainment for her and for me. Her new thing with her favorite play pal, Dina, is tug. Doesn’t matter if it’s a benebone, stuffed toy, rope, or a blade of grass – a game of tug will ensue! The funniest part is both dogs will go for the smallest part of the toy to play tug with. It could be a four foot rope but they’ll pay tug with the smallest piece of string! It looks like a modern version of Lady & the Tramp. The cutest part is when Dina steals a toy from Hailey, she’ll bring the toy back to Hailey to play tug with. TRUE friends!

Hailey is an energetic, fun, loving puppy. It take a of energy to keep up with her, but in a way I don’t have to. Hailey LOVES to play with other dogs and she loves to play with Phoebe, Ellie Mae, and her favorite Dina! The only thing Hailey loves more than playing with other dogs is TREATS. Hailey loves her treats more than anything in the world. She doesn’t resource guard, but she definitely lets other dogs know not to mess with her treats. The other day Dina’s handler was about to give Hailey a treat and Dina comes over…Hailey – she simply puts her paw on Dina’s chest and abruptly shoved her out of the picture. Absolutely comical!

Hailey’s week has been FULL of training and playing. Hailey passed her 1st of three obedience levels. She flew by the testing but the next level gets more difficult. Staying focused on tasks is difficult for a 7 month old puppy, but I believe in her 100%!
After my daily training with Hailey, she gets to play with her best friend, Dina. The two of them wrestle, chase each other, play tug with toys, and then drink water out of the same bowl together. Then it’s back to play again!

Hailey is quickly developing into a mature dog. She has a long way to grow from her puppy behavior, but she hit a milestone with going up and down steps! Granted, steps don’t sound like a big deal, but our steps are metal grating you can see through all the way to the floor – extremely scary for a dog, but now she will go up and down two steps at a time!
Even the way Hailey runs has changed. Initially, she ran like a slinky with four legs. She would trip over her own legs and was extremely uncoordinated. Now she runs with a majestic gait like a greyhound and juke dogs half her size! I know I sound like a proud parent…because I AM!

Hailey is absolutely awesome, FUNNY, and still learning the limits of what’s possible (and not)! Hailey LOVES chasing tennis balls. So…I threw a ball and it landed right next to a building. When she was close enough, she tries to pick up the ball, and… WHAM! Her head hits the side of the building! She looks up, and looks at the building like, “Where did THAT come from?!”, looks at me, then stares at the ball, and then just walks away. Spatial awareness is NOT her strong suit, but she’s a big puppy and with every mistake, much is learned. And YES, she’s learned how to navigate picking up toys right next to huge buildings!

Hailey is adjusting very well with living in another handler’s place. And when her primary handler came back from surgery, Haley had to do a double take before she ran, jumped, and licked her primary handler into a mess! I wish we could’ve done “slow-mo” like a movie – the reunion of the two was quite cute! Hailey will be staying with me only for a few weeks, which will be quite sad for me because she’s SO loving, trusting, and fun to be around!

Hailey’s primary handler recently had a medical procedure and for the past three days I’ve been taking care of Hailey. The primary handler has done an awesome job with Hailey! She has been an easy transition and adjusted much faster than anticipated. One of Hailey’s best attributes is she LOVES being around and playing with other dogs. One dog named Booker is one of Hailey’s favorites. The way they greet each other is funny, but my favorite is when they’re 15-20 feet from each other, lock eyes, crouch down, stare, and "freeze"... then when one makes a move, it’s play time!!! This stare down is great - sometimes it lasts a few seconds, while other times it can last half a minute!

Hailey is just FULL of life and is always ready to explore anything and everything…including everyone! Hailey is all fun and I had to learn fast to keep with her. She loves to be near her person, whether we are chilling or out and about with everyone.
Initially I struggled with getting her to put her leash back on when we were done in the yard, but now, she’s realized that I’m her person and I don’t have to chase her anymore. LOL I’ve also discovered that she likes to “back talk” and she knows exactly what she’s doing too! She will run away, bobbing and weaving and essentially saying to me, “catch me if you can!”
Once you meet her, you’ll understand why I can’t be mad at her, as she’s just adorable all around!

It has been an interesting week here…Hailey has been adjusting for the most part. She literally just started warming up to me, as it seemed to take her about 4 days for me to be able to leash her up without it turning into a game of catch me if you can, especially when we’re out in the yard! Of course she warms up to women right away!
The first couple days she just kind of stayed in the front part of the cell, but now she’s all over the place. She jumps up on the bed, gives me hugs and million kisses now too! She has also learned to back talk to me, but listens to everyone else, which isn’t fair either!
So far she’s learned to bring me her water bowl when she needs a refill! She’s a quick learner! She also loves all the dogs here too, but especially Dina! I think they share a common bond, maybe there’s shepherd in both of them!

Hailey isn't afraid of Friday the 13th! Its a lucky day for her because she will be joining the HOPE Program! We look forward to learning more about Hailey and molding her into the best little puppy any family could ask for!
