Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance

Dedicated To Saving The Lives Of Dogs

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to save the lives of dogs in central Pennsylvania through rescuing, fostering, adoptions, training through its Hounds of Prison Education (HOPE) training and rehabilitation program at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill (SCI-Camp Hill), and public outreach and education.

HOPE pairs carefully-selected inmates at SCI-Camp Hill with rescued dogs for training and rehabilitation, with the assistance of professional trainers and HOPE volunteers. Some dogs that participate in HOPE need basic training, while others have fears that they need help to overcome. HOPE is the perfect program to make that happen. The dogs live with their inmate handlers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the inmates are responsible for caring for and training the dogs. When the dogs' training is complete, they are adopted into forever homes, and the inmate gets another dog to train. Each HOPE graduate comes with free, life-time training support with one of CPAA's professional trainers.

It’s difficult to put into words the amazing impact that these inmates have on the dogs, and vice versa. These men take discarded dogs that no one wanted—many left to die in shelters or on the streets—and bring out the best in them so they can be placed into forever homes. In return, the dogs have a positive, life-changing impact on the men who train them, giving them a purpose and a tremendous amount of responsibility, and teaching them about unconditional love. Just as the men bring out the best in the dogs, the dogs bring out the best in the men! HOPE clearly provides rescue, redemption, love, and hope at both ends of the leash!

CPAA relies on your donations and its annual fundraising events—Denim Diamonds & Dogs in April, and WoofStock in September—to support its life-saving efforts. It takes a village to help animals in need, and we would love for you to become part of our village!

Aggressive Spay/Neuter

CPAA believes that the best way to stop the killing of innocent animals is to aggressively address the problem of overpopulation through spay/neuter programs that are widespread and readily available to the community. In support of this belief, CPAA promotes the spay/neuter of every animal prior to being adopted.

Increased Adoptions

CPAA believes that we are stronger working together than battling common issues alone. That is why we work with other recuses through our HOPE program to place more animals into homes through adoption. We host regular events to showcase adoptable animals, offer behavioral training programs, and provide resources to help increase adoption rates.

Community Education

CPAA believes that the conditions for the animals will improve only when the community surrounding them fully understands the need for better treatment, better laws and more proactive approaches to the issues they face. Every CPAA event provides educational opportunities on fostering, adoptions, and low-cost spay/neuter programs.

CPAA is proud to be a Community Aid partner!

This means that your donations to Community Aid result in money for CPAA.

Here’s how it works:

You donate shoes, clothing, accessories, household items, and electronics to ANY Community Aid location—NO BIN drop-offs!

Please write prominently CPAA’s Partner # 50067 on each bag of items donated,

or tape a paper with # 50067 on electronic items donated. It’s that easy!

Community Aid weighs the items and sends a check to CPAA every quarter based on the weight

of the items donated—CPAA receives 9 cents per pound.

That might not seem like much, but it all adds up and EVERY dollar helps CPAA help more animals!
