Callie

Callie

Callie is a 10 month old boxer mix pup and recently joined the HOPE Dogs Program on Friday, May 31, 2024!

Callie is a young pup, still learning about the world around her!  She's eager to learn, but more eager to romp and play with her friends and you!  She spent a few months in a foster home with many other dogs and a few cats too and did well with all of them, even the ones who didn't like a young energetic puppy.  She'll be the perfect companion to any family and we can't wait to see how much she's able to learn and how she will grow!

Callie is currently about 45 pounds and we don’t expect her to get much bigger, although she might gain a few more pounds.

Callie is sponsored by the Furry Friends Network, Kennel License #5011 and her adoption fee is $450.

With all of the rain this past week Callie was back at it playing in the puddles! She is not going to let a bit of rain or bad weather slow her down. On occasion she will just run out, do her business, and then retreat back indoors. More often than not she wants to play and she wants you to play in the rain with her, which is fun! She is the PERFECT dog to have if you want to act like a kid again and take a trip back to childhood!

Callie went on an adventure this week with her rescue at Pinchot Park over the weekend. She RAN her first 5k and did VERY WELL! She was rented to raise money for the rescue and she and her runner came in 2nd for female runners, and 16th overall! She had a BLAST and it was reported that she has excellent 4-wheel drive up hill but was not a fan of running on some of the gravel sections. For being her first 5k and only knowing her runner for a few minutes before the race, we’re all SUPER proud of her!

Back at the prison, she had fun playing in the rain and getting muddy! She loves zooming around in the puddles and then trying to bite the splashes she makes. She’s always entertaining!

Callie is doing great! She had her first encounter with a mouse this morning. She spotted it in the flowers and wanted NOTHING to do with it! She backed herself between my legs and then took the long way around the flowerbed! She played with Dina OFF LEASH and they did REALLY WELL together and it looked like they had a ton of fun too! They have become great pals.

This week Callie has made great strides with her socialization and willingness to approach new people!  She went on a walk this Thursday with her new friend, Buddy, to visit some of the offices.  She did not disappoint, she charmed staff as usual!  She, of course, played with Dina and Booker in the dog yard where she is in her glory.  It is cute how Callie watches Booker and mimics his behavior...she may have a crush!

08/30/2024

Callie has had a great week of playing hard and just being a puppy! The lantern flies have provided great entertainment for her along with the occasional white moth that goes floating by! She loves to explore and chase all of these things out in the dog yard. She also spends a lot of time running down her benebones or nylabones that we play fetch with. She just loves to play in the grass and chew on them!

Callie has really improved with her recall off of the fence lately and is even doing better socially too! She’s still timid at times, but overall better than she was!!!

08/23/2024

Callie has had a very busy week of playing with friends and being a crazy puppy!  She goes crazy for the peanut butter and banana flavored treats that we got this week!  She has also been snacking on carrots as they are one of her favorite snacks, along with popcorn!

She and Louie have been at it again too!  Every time they see one another they just want to wrestle and jump on each other.  They will keep each other occupied for a while and that is great because Callie LOVES being around other dogs!

08/16/2024

Callie has been eating her fruits, vegetables and getting plenty of exercise this week!  She is a very muscular little girl, and she's so very strong too!  She understands her super strength, and when she plays with other dogs like Louie, who is MUCH smaller than she is.  She is very gentle most of the time, while he is jumping all over her and pulling at her ears.  Sometimes she will push him down to remind him who is boss but she knows how to adopt her play style with all the other dogs, which is awesome to see!

Even though Callie is still cautious of people, she managed to pass her Level I Obedience test!

08/09/2024

Callie had some real fun out in the wet weather this week!  On Tuesday we went out in the rain and played in the huge puddles.  She was running full speed through a long puddle about a half foot deep trying to bite the water as she splashed through!  On Wednesday she played hard in the mud with her new pal Dina!  She got so muddle that he black and white coat became brown.  She was good and got a bath right after!  She LOVES the water!

Callie is also doing better with her socialization with new people.  Her most recent meet and greet went well too!  It was her third time hanging out with this person and initially she was nervous, but then warmed right up!  When the other pup (her potential new brother, got there, she showed him what to do when you're in a crate!  Keep your fingers crossed for Callie!

Callie is such a sweet dog, she just LOVES attention.  She loves to snuggle and watch tv and this week we've been watching the Olympics.  She doesn't seem to mind when I cheer loudly either!  In addition to handling the cheers of the guys, she's been very social this week and making new friends.  Some of her friends reward her with food and we've now learned that carrots, radish, PICKLES, and of course hotdogs and hamburgers are acceptable rewards for her!

Overall, we think our little Callie with the big personality is ready for a home.  She can be a little shy at first, but she knows all of her basic commands, struggles a little bit with walking on a loose leash (she's got places TO GO), but that will come with time and practice too!

7/26/2024

Callie is still having fun with birds. Not only does she chase them, but she stalks them like a tiger!  She will crouch low to the ground & almost crawl towards her target.  She then tries her best to hide behind a four inch high patch of grass until it is time to pounce! Nu this time the birds have already noticed her and have readied themselves to fly away.  She still acts tough after they get away like, "I told those guys who's boss!"

7/19/2024

This week we figured out a funny trick that Callie seems to enjoy and it is really funny for everyone too!  Remember when you were a child and an adult would grab your face and say, "I got your nose"?  Well, when you do that to Callie, she gets all excites and starts to wiggle and jumps around all over the place!  I don't know if she really wants her nose back, or if she thinks its a treat and tries to get it, but either way its always good for a laugh!

We've also been working on some pattern games to keep her engaged with her handler rather than running away from groups of people.  She's getting better and more confident every day.  She seems to be more fearful of people with hats, especially if she doesn't already know them.  But she's a good pup and learns to trust her handler, or if there is another dog, she follows that dog's cues too.  We still have work to do, but she's ready and willing to continue learning!

7/12/2024

This week was very hot, but Callie made the best of it! She was a big, brave girl this week and took her first dip in the pool! We were in the yard playing with one of her toys and when it ended up in the pool, she got right in, stared at the toy for a second, hesitated for another second, and then plunged her face right into the water! I think she surprised herself because she promptly jumped out and took off running, proudly doing what looked like a victory lap around the yard!

She can be a shy, nervous pup, but she’s capable of trusting and learning from new people and new experiences. She completely comes out of her shell if there is another dog around, and we think she would really benefit from a home with another dog to guide her.

Callie has taking a liking to birds. She likes to run along with them when they are flying overhead or in the Dog yard. When we are out front, she tries to stalk them in the grass until they fly away and then she tries to run with them, I don’t think she knows what she looks confused when she sees them. She she won’t stalk the geese. She just stares at them like a creeper!

She’s doing much better with Fetch. She is now running the ball most of the time when she doesn’t bring it back I think she just wants me to chase her! She gets all crazy and wiggly then! We’re also working on acclimating her to the day room where it can get a little busy. She’s nervous and shy around new people and will sometimes bark, but she’s better when there’s a dog with her maybe she just needs an emotional support dog? We will continue to work on this as I know she can be a big brave girl.

Callie and Loki are HILARIOUS playing off leash together in the dog yard! She likes pretend to be a statue to throw him off guard which gives her the opportunity to grab his collar. He will attempt to defend this by just dropping down on her. She is a fierce little girl, meaning she won’t let her size slow her down with bigger playmates.

Apart from getting along with all the dogs, she’s really starting to come out of her shell and be more social. Some things still make her nervous but if she has another dog with her, she’s much more confident.

6/21/2024

I took Callie to the yard with Rocco and they got to play off leash! Rocco had to wear his “head gear” as we wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to accidentally get too excited with Callie, but she didn’t mind it and still corrected him when necessary. She’s a great teacher for being so very young!

Callie also had her first event this past Wednesday, where she attended Wet Nose Wednesday with the Harrisburg Senators!

6/14/2024

Callie’s second week in and she’s doing great with meeting new people! She’s been learning to give paw, touch, and sit for treats. She is super loving and playful and she’s just the sweetest dog! She’s still loving life here with the other HOPE dogs and is bringing out different sides to each one of them. She just has this way about here that helps to bring out the playful pup in each of the dogs!

6/7/2024

Well Callie has made friends with just about every dog here, but most notably HAZEL!!! They were playing off leash together for the first time and it was the cutest thing ever! She likes to hop around like a bunny and just generally is just a happy girl. We’re all so excited to learn more about her and help her grow up to be the best dog anyone could ask for!

Since Merlin was adopted, Callie joined the HOPE Program. Callie is a 9 month old, mixed breed pup, with a LOT of LOVE to give. She’s a small but spunky gal, can hold her own with the big dogs, and so far is fitting in nicely. She previously lived in a foster home with 5 other dogs and a couple cats, so she would be perfect for any home! She’s got a lot to learn, but she’s a quick study and a very smart girl. She’s also got the added bonus of the perfect ear bounce 😍

Jaida (formerly Potter) joined the HOPE Program on Friday 2/24/2023. She is approximately 7 years old and is sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance, CPAA. Jaida is joining the Program after she and her family worked REALLY hard to help her adjust to a new baby in the house. Unfortunately, she prefers the companionship of older kids (10 years and over) to that of an infant or toddler. Jaida has a HIGH PREY DRIVE and will give chase to small critters, so she shouldn’t live with cats, birds, guinea pigs, etc. The smaller and squeakier, the more interested Jaida gets! She and her family put in a lot of time and work, so she’s already a very well behaved girl. She loves going for walks and hikes, but prefers not to be bombarded by off leash dogs. After all, she’s a well mannered gal and expects her friends to be the same! Jaida is also muzzle trained for trips to the vet and groomers too! If you're interested in adopting Jaida, please review her future home requirements, and if you think your home would suit her needs, click that "Apply to Adopt Jaida" button below! -Jaida NEEDS to be an ONLY PET , as she has a HIGH PREY DRIVE and does like dogs in her face -Jaida will NOT be adopted into a home with kids under the age of 10 -Jaida loves going for walks, so while a fenced yard is great, she'd like a family to take her on hikes and adventures -Jaida would also prefer a calm and quiet home , not one with a lot of guests or busy activities. Jaida is sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance and her adoption fee is $300.

Meet Hazel! Hazel is approximately 2 year old, and is thought to be a German Shepherd mix girl. Her coat is a gorgeous caramel brindle and so very soft. Miss Hazel joined HOPE on 11/04/2022 and we are looking forward to learning more about her as she progresses with her training. Hazel spent about a year with Canine Rescue of Central PA. She did not spark a lot of interest from potential adopters, but the volunteers at the rescue just love her! She is an active girl who loves going for walks, playing with toys, especially her purple egg, which as you can see she likes taking everywhere, and pretty much any activity that involves being outside! If you’re an active family looking for a furry family member, Hazel might be your girl! If you're interested in adopting Hazel, please review her future home requirements, and if you think your home would suit her needs, click that "Apply to Adopt Hazel" button below! -Hazel NEEDS to be an only pet, and therefore will NOT be adopted into a home with another dog, cat, or other small animals. -Hazel is a HIGH ENERGY dog, and plays VERY HARD. This is something we’ve worked on during her time in HOPE, and while her possessive behavior with toys has improved, we would not be comfortable adopting Hazel into a home with young kids. -Hazel would love if her family got her enrolled in some sort of dog sport, like agility. She needs an active family that will provide her with daily exercise, beyond a walk around the block. This girl would LOVE hiking and climbing rough terrain with you! Hazel is sponsored by Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance, CPAA, and her adoption fee is $300.
